It's nearly time! The 2010 Hall Ute Competition and Family Day
is being held on Saturday May 8 at the Hall Polocrosse Ground in
North Canbena and this year there are even more family and
children's activities. Run in aid of children's cancer charity Camp
Quality, the third year of the event.
Ute entries are rolling in. Entries received so far include a EH
Holden, Mighty Boys and many Commodores.
Entries have been received from as far away as Sydney. Ute entries
close on May 4, 2010.
There are six main categories for the ute competition - 4x4,
B&S / Rural, Chick's, Street, Restored and Work / Trade.
There's also another six "special" categories in which all utes are
automatically entered. These are Best Overall, Encouragement,
Furthest Travelled, Most Lights, Most Stickers and Plain
Jane.
"A barbecue will run all day and there's no gate fee. This year
we've arranged many more family activities including an animal
nursery, face painting, a jumping castle - subject to no rain on
the day - and pony rides", Andrew Holland, one of the organisers
said.
"Last year's favourites such as music from Little Rock, trials
hikes, historic engines and various children's activities will be
featured again", he said.
The day starts at 11.00 am with a "cruise" from Remington Road,
Mitchell to the Polocrosse Ground arriving at 12:00 pm. Family
activities will start at noon.
The award ceremony starts at 3:30 pm.
The idea of the Hall Ute Competition and Family Day came from a
group of people from Gundaroo and Wamboin who wanted to raise money
for charity. Mr Holland said the day was a chance for people to
have a great family outing and to raise funds for an outstanding
organisation in Camp Quality.
"While all the ute owners have put a lot of effort into their utes,
and there are many new vehicles, it is great to see the older utes
from the 1950's and 60's", he said.
