As part of their Community Awareness Program, Tweed Academy of
Sport athletes enjoyed a few hours on Cudgen Creek at Kings cliff
last Sunday helping out Camp Quality Northern Rivers.
Camp Quality was hosting a kids camp at Tyalgum, while families
were staying at Hastings Point, and the TAS athletes spent their
Sunday morning taking the families stand-up paddleboarding in the
creek.
For all Camp Quality families, it was the first time attempting
the activity.
After the stand-up paddleboarding session, Murwillumbah Rotary
supplied a barbecue lunch for all involved, while they enjoyed
various games of boules, touch, and volleyball.
Needless to say, there were plenty of laughs.
"It was a wonderful experience for our athletes to be involved
with," TAS general manager Margie Coleman said.
"It was a great exchange between three not-for-profit
organisations.
"The academy looks forward to being involved with both groups in
the future." The special day with the kids of Camp Quality was the
academy's second good deed since its inception.
In December last year 30 hockey players swapped lessons in athlete
development for carol practice in preparation for a Christmas visit
to residents of Bupa Aged Care Centre at South Tweed Heads.
The teenagers, aged from 14 to 17, have been encouraged to
participate in community service as part of their involvement with
the academy.
