Mannum Lions recently hosted a day for kids with cancer and
their families as part of the Camp Quality program.
On March 14, 70 visitors started the day with a short river cruise
courtesy of River of Australia Expeditions.
For the kids the highlight of the cruise was being allowed to
steer the boat and earning a Captain for the Day'
certificate.
Back at Mary Ann Reserve everyone was treated to a barbecue lunch
and icecream by the Mannum Lions Club.
The Mannum CFS then gave the children the thrill of sitting behind
the wheel of the fire truck or squirting the big fire hoses.
Two face painters donated their services and added to the fun of
the day.
A number of adults commented the day was not only important for
the kids with cancer but also for the parents and siblings.
The event has been a regular feature of the Lions program for many
years, a legacy of the late Lester Howie who initiated the event
and ran it for over a decade.
Lion Fred Lowe, who organised the day, expressed his appreciation
to the Expeditions', the CFS and the face painters who donated
their services without charge.
