Rockhampton's Amaroo Art Group has this year fixed its fundraising focus on helping the most vulnerable in our community - sick children.

Amaroo president June Taylor said the members wanted to make a difference to the lives of sick children, so they had chosen Camp Quality as their annual charity.

"We aim to raise enough money to sponsor two children plus their carers to make a trip to their camp," June said.

"Last year we donated $1274 to the Scleroderma Foundation to assist with research, so we are confident that we will do equally as well this year." To do this, Amaroo will hold three exhibitions throughout 2010 at Northside Plaza in Musgrave Street.

Members will donate a percentage of all sales made, plus all profits from the sale of prints and their perpetual birthday calendar which features local scenes painted by June Taylor.

Another feature this year will be a special section with paintings for children.

These paintings are perfect for decorating nurseries or brightening up children's bedrooms.

June said with Mother's Day not far away, it would be a good time to find a special gift.

Amaroo's first exhibition at Northside Plaza will be held from Tuesday, May 4 to Saturday, May 8.

Another exciting event this year will be an inaugural exhibition of members' works in the QRI Hall in Stanley Street.

This hall is in use for a variety of social functions and from July 2 to July 18, where paintings of all shapes, sizes and subject matter will be on display and for sale.

Members are now busily preparing paintings for this new event.

The Amaroo Art Group consists of a friendly and supportive group of amateur artists who love to create.

Members of Amaroo can already paint but acknowledge the importance of supporting each other by meeting once a month to share ideas and discuss trends in art.

"To continue growing as an artist, it is important to challenge ourselves by trying new methods, new products and new subjects.

"This way our art will remain vibrant and fresh," June said.
