A learn to surf day for Camp Quality at Greenmount saw surfing
legends take to the waves.
Surfers Against Nature's Destruction (SAND) hosted the surf day for
more than 25 children from Camp Quality on Sunday.
Spokeswoman Ken Algar said surf celebrities Stephanie Gilmore, Luke
Munro, Luke Egan, Dave Rastovich, Hayley Bateup, Jamie Mitchell,
Wayne Dean and Wayne Rabbit' Bartholomew rallied with SAND to
provide an unforgettable experience for the kids.
"All hands were on deck as it was one of Camp Quality's more
popular fun days, with some families coming as far as Noosa for the
morning's surf session," Ms Algar said.
Kelly Slater said he enjoyed the experience with the
children.
"It's really nice to see the kids enjoy themselves in the surf -
especially kids who have never surfed before," he said.
World tour competitor Luke Munro said the day was
unbelievable.
"We've had a ball and the vibe and the enthusiasm in the water was
something I've never seen before," he said.
"I wish every surf could be that fun." Ms Algar said SAND was
founded in 1985 by the late Gold Coast lawyer and surfing saint'
Denis Callinan.
"The SAND Sippas have helped generate smiles and happiness for the
children by donating $49,000 to the cancer charity over the past
four years." Two instructors from Walk on Water conducted the
session.
Thanks to everyone who supported us on the day - we love
you!
