Become a CQ companion

A Camp Quality companion must be willing to invest their time and energy, but the return is priceless!

So what's a companion?

Each CQ child is assigned a volunteer companion before they attend a camp. Their companion ensures their safety and, most importantly, makes sure they have a great time on camp.

CQ companions come from all walks of life; what they have in common is that they are all motivated to bring joy into the life of their campers.

CQ companions are required to be:
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Able to provide a minimum of three references
  • Available for an interview on a pre-arranged date
  • Willing to attend a training workshop and adhere to Camp Quality rules
  • Be available for the full period of camp dates
  • Make contact with the camper once an assignment has been made
  • Provide round the clock care of the camper while at camp
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times; deal only with the Area Manager on matters of concern
  • Must not use tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs whilst at camp

Thank you from Belinda

First of all I would like to say thank you so much for the opportunity to attend the CQ Junior Camp this year. It was such a wonderful experience for me and it has only fed my hunger about wanting to be more involved with CQ going forward. Friday afternoon I was apprehensive about going, being that it was my first camp and not knowing much about my camper. Just before I arrived, I wondered if I was going to be able to do it and I began to wonder what I had got myself into. But as soon as I arrived at camp, I knew it was meant to be, and that this is what I had been waiting for the past 8 years.

At the end of the weekend I was exhausted, but energised and wanting more. I was so proud of little Scotty and what he had achieved over the weekend, even if to others it was not much. Seeing his face light up when we did craft and what he had made, and I can still hear his laugh from when we were playing cricket, or when he beat me on several occasions in a running race. It made some of the difficult times so much more worthwhile.

Scotty is such a beautiful person once you get to know him and he even helped me become more tolerant and to have a lot more patience with others. Although challenging at times, he is the sole reason I wanted to begin volunteering with CQ - to put a smile on a child's face.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and I look forward to seeing him grow over the next few years should he choose to stay with CQ.

Thank you once again for the amazing job you and your team do to help bring these camps to life. The impact you have on the kids is amazing, and none of this would have been possible without your love, support and dedication.

May this be the beginning of many years of us working together, you truly are amazing!

Regards,

Belinda Wardley
