Leanne is a Companion and volunteer for family camps
1. What drew you to CQ, and what do you love most
about your involvement?
Reading Vera's story in a magazine explaining what Camp Quality was
and how she founded it, pulled at the heart strings. What I love
is the people I get to meet, the children, families, staff and
other volunteers. Through Camp Quality I have made friends I know I
can always depend on no matter what and after having one camper
over ten years, I know I also have an extended family.
2. What have you learnt most about yourself from
your involvement?
That I have the courage to face life's challenges and to
make the most of every moment.
3. What personality traits do you feel you use by
volunteering?
That's a hard question. My ability to mix easily with
other people and being a good listener.
4. What's a CQ moment you treasure?
Too many to list one, one of the most memorable was on my
very first camp watching a young boy who was unable to use the
lower half of his body watch a few children climb a wooden climbing
frame, he decided he wanted to do it too. So using only his upper
body strength managed to climb the frame, it was a challenge for
any of the children to do, but watching this child climb is a
moment I will never forget, when facing challenges in my own life
it's something I still reflect on ten years later. This particular
child still attends CQ now and has the full use back of his legs,
it shows what never giving up can achieve!
5. What do you love to laugh
about?
Reminiscing with friends all the fun and laughter times shared on
camp.
6. What are you optimistic about?
The future for all people with cancer!
7. What would you say to someone considering
joining the 'CQ family'?
Joining CQ is the best thing I have ever done, as I was
told my first year at CQ it is so much fun. 'The first year you go
to do something for the children, every year after that it's as
much for yourself as anyone else' CQ has given me so much!
