Our volunteers

Our incredible teams of volunteers also live our philosophy of optimism, fun and hope and we'd love you to join the team! We have a range of volunteering opportunities including being a companion on kids' camps and assisting on family camps, helping with community fundraising, welcoming new families and lending a hand around the CQ office.

Companions

One of our biggest roles for our volunteers. Companions - our big kids! - accompany our campers and siblings on camp for 3 -5 days. Their job is to make sure all our kids are safe and having a great time.

Fundraising volunteers

Fundraising for Camp Quality is very important as the dollars we raise help Camp Quality continue and support the wonderful programs that provide FUN THERAPY to so many children and families affected by cancer.

We are always looking for people to help at our fundraising events which involve days from fun runs to balls.

If you would like to help in fundraising please call Penny on 3216 0299 or email penny.sorbello@campquality.org.au

1. What drew you to CQ, and what do you love most about your involvement?
I saw an advert on TV in 1992 and thought that it sounded great. The thought of helping these kids and their families would be a worthwhile thing to do so I phoned the office the next day. The thing I love the most is seeing how much these kids love camp and love the experience, their smiles and laughter is the best part.

2. What have you learnt most about yourself from your involvement?
That I am able to step out of my comfort zone and act silly. As a paramedic, I have often thought I have become hardened to certain situations, but my involvement with Camp Quality shows me that I haven't, which I'm grateful for. I have also learnt to give anything a go, there are no barriers.

3. What personality traits do you feel you use by volunteering?
I think I am a genuine person, what you see is what you get. So I think that's why I have been able to fit in with Camp Quality and is why I have made so many new friends during my involvement.

4. What's a CQ moment you treasure?
My CQ moment that I treasure is the relationships I have developed with a couple of CQ families. Not to sure if you can call this a moment but I have kept in contact with these families since 1992. I truly treasure these relationships and their friendships.

5. What do you love to laugh about?
Mostly myself but seeing these kids having fun and totally enjoying themselves, that's what makes me laugh.

6. What are you optimistic about?
Life in general. To be able to really enjoy life no matter how long we are on this planet for and to enjoy your family and your friends' company.

7. What would you say to someone considering joining the 'CQ family'?
I would say "DO IT". You will not be disappointed and you will have a blast.
