What drew you to Camp Quality, and what do you love most
about it?
Like most people, I'm drawn to laughter, fun and adventure. We all
need these things but I especially love the idea of creating fun
opportunities for kids who have much heavier stuff to deal with in
every day life. The idea of breeding optimism and good times is
irresistible to me.
Why do you think 'Laughter is the best
medicine'?
I've read a lot of research that says that laughter decreases
stress, cures sickness and helps people live longer. Check out the
videos on the Camp Quality website and you will understand how much
joy and health-giving juice the camps create.
What do you do for 'fun therapy'?
I do a job, every day, that I love so much. I write
adventure-filled books set in places that excite and inspire me:
New York, Byron Bay and, right now, Space. Spending months in these
places inside my head is fun enough but, then, for research, I have
to race go-karts, research nits, try out new inventions, meet
amazing people and travel to cool places. I also wrestle my two
little boys. A LOT. That's the most fun of all.
What do you love to laugh about?
Myself. My family, who are all pretty funny. I used to love Mad
Magazine and I had about 100 issues. I have lots of funny friends.
I like to read funny books. I like standup comedy. And I'm
ridiculously ticklish. Don't even go near the ribs.
What do you hope to bring to CQ?
I hope to bring huge enthusiasm and positivity. I like to throw
myself into life, try new new sports and activities. I hope to
inspire people to use their imaginations. Some of the greatest
writers, artists and moviemakers were unwell for a period during
their childhood and they used that time to create stories, to
dream, to imagine. I'd love to help some Camp Quality kids to
realise the extraordinary stories they have inside.
