Welcome to the Camp Quality Website!

We are the children’s family cancer charity that believes in bringing optimism and happiness to the lives of children and families affected by cancer through fun therapy. We believe laughter is the best medicine.

At CQ we are one big happy family. Our kids and their families, our staff and volunteers, and our partners, sponsors and donors are all part of the family. Together we help children and their families face the challenging days and celebrate good ones.

We believe in improving the quality of life through unrelenting optimism.

Junior camps

Leave mum and dad behind!

Guess what? If you are four, five, six or seven years old this camp is for you!

Do you want to know what camps like?

It is amazing, it is magical, it is great fun. It is a big adventure. We also have lots of quieter activities for when you feel a little tired.

You'll have your own adult companion for the whole camp. They will help you out with everything you need help with. At camp you get to make lots of the decisions.

Your companion will help you have a go at everything. You will feel an amazing sense of achievement after you have done lots of new things you might not have ever thought you could do. If you are not feeling like the big adventure, our quieter activities are also great fun. You will have great stories to tell after camp and lots of awesome photos to show your friends and family.

We always have a medical team at camp. They like to join in the fun too. They are so happy to see you all out of hospital.

How long does it go for?

Camps are usually for four days. They are not too far away from home.

Where do you sleep?

In cabins, motels or lodges, depending on the venue. Rooms are often like a dormitory. You will always have at least another camper, your companion and their companion too. It's fun sharing a room.

How much does it cost?

It is free. There is no cost to families. Thanks to our generous sponsors and loyal donors these camps are fully funded by Camp Quality.

Who can attend?

The first step is to register to become a Camp Quality family. Junior camp is for  children aged 4-7 years. No parents attend these camps.

Information for your parents

This is the first CQ camp opportunity for young children living with cancer to find independence away from the family.

Each child is allocated a trained companion who gets to know the child and family before camp. This relationship may often continue after camp. All companions are well trained and police checked.

Companions help the children with new activities that build self esteem, self confidence and a sense of achievement. We also cater for those who just need 'time out'.

How do I sign up?

Your child needs to be registered with Camp Quality to attend camp. If you are a family with a child under 18 years living with cancer then we would love you to join Camp Quality.Apply now

Life

My sister Sarah was diagnosed with cancer when she was 2. I was only 7 at the time.

We had been at the beach when Sarah got sick, mum took her to the hospital, I had been with Sarah but Dad had picked me up when she was taken to Nambour, then Brisbane.

Dad had later gone to meet Mum at Brisbane and we had stayed with our cousins. A few weeks later we went to see Sarah. I don't remember the day well, but some how I found out that Sarah had CANCER.

We still attended school but months later went to join Mum and Dad at Brisbane, we stayed at CCS and Ronald Mcdonald house. My younger brother Andrew and I went to hospital school and visited Sarah lots.

4 months later we came home and started school again. We were soon pulled out because there was chicken pox at school. We were home schooled for a while. We also joined Camp Quality and went to lots of camps which helped a lot.

Sarah still takes a lot of medicines and visits the hospital a lot. But she is now in year 1 and I'm in year 7 and she has no cancer and has been clear for a few years.

We go to sibs, family camps and Sarah goes to junior camp. it's great to know that there are other kids out there who live with people with cancer. It gets hard at times but I know that CQ and other people are trying to find cure and help those who live with this.
