Magical weekend at Hogwarts Middle Camp
When the kids going on camp received their Hogwarts letters before camp, complete with wax seal and the Hogwarts crest, excitement reached fever pitch. This was going to be a truly magical Middle Camp!
It began with a trip on Puffing Billy (aka the Hogwarts Express) to Lakeside where kids “transfigured” some pizzas for lunch, before heading on to Camp Marysville. Upon reaching camp, the kids entered ‘The Great Hall’, adorned with the house colours of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Excitement started to build as the Sorting Hat was brought out, and began sorting kids into their houses and presenting them with robes and wands. After a scrumptious feast and some decorating of cabins, it was time to live (or relive) the magic of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at movie night.
On Saturday, the kids attended several Hogwarts classes, taught by the Hogwarts professors (our wonderful costumed volunteers). This included Potions, where campers made slime and mixed colours into awesome decorative patterns; Charms, where they conquered their fears and went rock-climbing; and Herbology where they learnt how to look after plants and created their own terrariums to take home as a memento from Camp. The day of wizardry ended with a disco, a chance to let loose and dance like a Hippogriff.
Due to wet weather on Sunday, 'Care of Magical Creatures' class was cancelled, but made up for by extra Quidditch practice! Thanks to the guidance of the Melbourne University Quidditch Team, time flew by as campers mounted their brooms and battled each other.
Overall this was a truly awesome weekend, especially for those kids who would be graduating from Camp Quality and saying goodbye after this camp. For those who still have a couple of years left with us, we can’t wait to see you back again!
Thank you as always to those who donated to this camp, especially Rubie’s Deerfield who donated robes and wands for all our campers to wear! A massive thank you as well to all our wonderful volunteers who once again made this camp not just possible, but spectacular.
