wesCarpade 2016 a success

wesCarpade was an amazing success for the fifth year running, raising $893,000 this year. A colourful group of 24 quirky cars travelled 3,500km through Western Australia’s Coral Coast over the course of a week.

Every wesCarpadian (AKA Weskie) spent the year decorating their cars twenty years old or older and fundraising at least $5,000 to participate. The Donnybrook-Bridgetown Mail highlighted some of the themed cars, including the hand painted Old MacDonald.

Mitch Vickers, who participated for the second time, told Mandurah Mail he would recommend wesCarpade to anyone looking to make a difference to children and their families living with cancer. He raised over $44,000 with his Smurf-themed car.

Coastal-inspired Surf’s up car owner and Harcourts business partner, Den Baldwin spoke to Bunbury Mail about why they and others keep coming back to the fundraiser

“We’re lucky to have healthy family and kids but we all really do it for different reasons, some have a family situation with cancer and others are just big hearted,” - Den Baldwin

During the journey, the cars pulled into towns along the way to fanfare of sirens, horns, and water cannons. wesCarpade visited schools along the way, giving kids the chance to see the cars and have some Cap Quality style fun.

wesCarpade also hosted a Rock n Rolls Blues fundraising night in Pinjarra, unleashed the pirates and wenches in Monkey Mia and The Wild West came to town in Gascoyne junction with a friendly match of cricket with the cars as the boundary line.

On rest day many Weskies headed to the reef for snorkelling and whale watching while others went fishing. There was plenty of time to have a quick dip during a lunch stop at the Coral Bay Resort on route to Carnarvan and at Hamelin Bay those having a quick dip met a pod of dolphins.

Nedge Sinanovski, Camp Quality’s Programs and Community Fundraising General Manager praised the crews for doing such a fantastic job in the Bunbury Mail, while Kath Millward showed off her Driving Miss Daisy car and spoke fondly to the Midwest Times about her firsthand experience on Camp Quality camps.

Daren Kenny and Chris Macri, also known as the Beach Boys, drove their Kombi van for the second year. South Western Times reported the Kombi is named after Mr Macri’s daughter Casey and how together they have raised around $70,000 for the cause.

Geraldton hosted a Fun Day to bring the journey to a fantastic end with face painting and a bouncy castle outside the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre as featured in the Geraldton Guardian.

Everyone is already excited for the next wesCarpade adventure!

About wesCarpade

wesCarpade is Western Australia’s happiest and wackiest outback motoring adventure!

Our passion for positivity pushes us through some of the most breathtaking terrain in Western Australia. Participants, fondly known as wesCarpadians, fundraise a minimum of $5,000 per car to Camp Quality in order to embark on the week-long drive, covering thousands of km’s to put smiles on the faces of kids who are living with cancer. These dedicated and hard-working fundraisers spend all year raising money to attend the event!

It’s not a rally or a race but an adventure fuelled by fun, mateship, and laughter. Throughout the journey, wesCarpadians drive their animated automobiles (which must be at least 20 years old) through rural towns, stopping to lend a hand in local communities and visiting schools with Camp Quality’s Primary School Education Program to dispel common myths and misconceptions surrounding cancer.
