Inaugural Giggle Ball Perth a smashing success

On Saturday the 26th November 2016, Camp Quality Western Australia held its inaugural Giggle Ball Perth! The hugely successful evening featured the talent of Hayley McelhinneyFliptease, Daren Reid and the Soul City Groove and Bravo Singing Waiters.

Guests were greeted on the red carpet by our vivacious and loveable puppets, Kylie and Dean, before climbing the spiral staircase for their next surprise. Upon entry to the main foyer, they beacame stars of the Giggle Ball magazine cover posing in all their finery. This unique photoshoot was a hit with the crowd, showcasing the incredible outfits guests wore.

Surprise number three was interesting to say the least. Guests were greeted by cheeky "sheeple" - performers from Fliptease dressed as fauns who bounded through the crowd during pre-dinner drinks. The remarkably talented Lollypop Lira performed at the same time, astounding guests with her breathtaking skills.

The evening then opened with MC, Hayley Mcelhinney (from Channel 9’s Doctor Doctor), who proceeded to host a night full of fun, laughter and giving. Guests were treated to inspiring speeches given by Georgia Lowry and the McDevitt family about their cancer journeys. It was a very quiet room when Fin and Lee McDevitt shared their son, Kaden's, diagnosis and the struggles they overcame as a result of it. Tears were in almost everyone's eyes when Kaden and his younger brother, Liam, joined their parents on stage afterwards.

The event also boasted plenty of laughs, with guests surprised by a secret singing waiter and Miss Gail's 80 hula hoop performance! Guests expressed their incredible generosity with many raffle tickets being sold along with a silent auction. The live auction featured great items up for grabs, such as a corporate box at the Perth Wildcats game and a skydive over the Western Australian coastline.

However it wasn’t until the last item for the live auction, sponsoring a child to go to camp, that it was made evident how many people’s lives were touched by the event. 16 generous donors stood up to pledge their support, finishing the formal section of the evening on a high note.

Guests then danced and celebrated the fabulous night to the rocking sounds of Daren Reid and the Soul City Groove band.

To top off the amazing night, the event raised $35,731.18! This figure will make a huge difference to the kids and families Camp Quality supports.

"The money raised from the Giggle Ball is going directly towards supporting Camp Quality’s essential programs and services in Western Australia.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making Perth's inaugural Giggle Ball a night to remember, and to everyone in the room who contributed so generously in so many ways on the evening. Your combined efforts will assist us in continuing to provide an exceptional level of support to children and their families growing up with cancer across the state.

I would encourage anybody who would like to explore getting involved with Camp Quality and supporting the work we do, to contact me at any time. It was a pleasure to spend an evening with all of our supporters and I am looking forward to an even bigger Giggle Ball Perth in 2017!" - Steve Archibald, State Manager Camp Quality WA
