The new Hunter Cancer Hub (The Hub) has officially opened its doors! The first-of-its-kind Hub is a space for families and individuals impacted by cancer to access information and services from various cancer support organisations in the one location. This ground-breaking collaboration is the first co-working space that includes eight cancer charities working together to provide integrated support for patients and their families.
The Hunter Cancer Hub aims to relieve some of the stress families and individuals experience when undergoing a cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Hub provides the opportunity for support appointments and an environment to connect with professionals, and other families experiencing the same challenges.
The Hub was made possible by an $90,000 grant from May 2021 facilitated by Canteen from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation.
The Hub will see eight local not-for-profits come together under the one roof, including: Camp Quality, Canteen, Hunter Melanoma Foundation, Sleapy’s Foundation, Leukemia Foundation, Hunter Breast Care Foundation, Cancer Council and Little Wings.
Deborah Thomas, Camp Quality CEO says finding cancer support should be simple.
“At Camp Quality we know that cancer impacts every member of the family and that a range of support is needed at every stage of the experience. Families often tell us how overwhelming it is navigating different services, so we are very proud to be part of The Hunter Cancer Hub, a collaborative space that makes life easier for families dealing with cancer.”
Starting in April, The Hunter Cancer Hub will be offering a monthly open day for people impacted by cancer and their families or support people, attended by a range of partnering cancer services.
