In November 2019, Bailey was age champion at Cross Country one week and diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia the next. He was rushed into emergency surgery and started chemotherapy at Queensland Children’s hospital. Later, Bailey needed a bone marrow transfer which was given by his younger brother Logan.
