ABOUT
Camp Quality, have created this service for children of all ages who know someone facing cancer. It could be their own diagnosis, or that of a parent, carer, grandparent, sibling, classmate or family friend.
This service is designed so kids can easily and safely find the information they want to know, like what cancer is, the treatment used to manage it and how they can get further support. It is also perfect for parents or carers who want to teach kids about cancer in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
Kids
This service is just for you! You can read a little bit at a time, or the whole thing in one go. Most things you’ll want to know are here, but we couldn’t fit everything in… so it’s still important to speak to an adult you trust (like Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa or your school teacher) if you have any questions.
If anything in this service worries you and there’s no one to talk to right now, you can chat to a friendly Kids HelpLine counsellor by calling 1800 55 1800 or visiting www.kidshelpline.com.au.
Parents and family members
This service is designed for kids to use independently to find the information they need. However, we do encourage kids to speak to an adult they trust while using the service. So ensure you are available to answer questions or hear feelings that may come up. The service is also ideal to explore together and will be a valuable learning tool and experience for you and your child to share.
If your family needs further support, Camp Quality provides programs and services for kids 0–15 and their families facing cancer. To find out more, call our friendly team on 1300 662 267 or visit campquality.org.au.
Parenting is hard enough without having to deal with cancer too. Parenting Through Cancer is a service providing support for parents facing their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of a child. You can access the free telephone counselling service on 1800 945 215 or by emailing [email protected]. Or to connect online with other parents impacted by cancer, visit www.parentingthroughcancer.org.au.
Teachers
This service is a great resource to use with primary school students (school years 1 to 6), especially as a follow up activity to our Cancer Education Program, featuring the Camp Quality Puppets! This free program has been visiting primary schools, and education and care services across Australia for over 30 years. To find out more, call Camp Quality on 1300 662 267 or visit campquality.org.au.
