Have fun creating your very own “Knitting Nancy” and make some great gifts for family and friends! The best part is that there are no knitting needles required. With a couple of household items and some wool, you can be on your way to being a knitting PRO!
What you will need:
- 1 toilet roll
- 4 paddle pop sticks
- Cardboard
- Wrapping paper
- Tape
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Wool
Let’s set up!
- Measure 3cm on each of the paddle pop sticks and mark with the pencil.

- Using the 3cm line as a guide, tape the sticks to the roll making sure they are equal distance apart.

- Cut the cardboard to size and cover with the wrapping paper.

- Wrap the covered cardboard around the roll and secure with tape. You are now ready to begin knitting!

How to Knit:
Step 1
Feed the wool through the roll leaving a nice long piece to hold on to and tighten as you go.

Step 2
Wind the wool around each stick; make sure you keep going in the same direction.

Step 3
Continue until you have 2 loops on each stick. Give the end of the wool a little tug to keep in tight.

Step 4
Pass the bottom loop over the top loop on each stick. Keep on adding rows and it won’t be long before you see your knitting appear at the bottom of the roll.

Step 5
Once you are happy with the length you are ready to cast off.

Step 6
Take the loop from one stick and pop it over the next one. Then pass the bottom loop over the top.
Step 7
Continue the pattern until you are left with one loop on the final stick.
Step 8
Finally, cut your wool and tie off the final loop using a little knot to keep it secure. You are now ready to create.

Don’t forget to post pictures of your knitting – maybe a bracelet or necklace for a family member. Buttons make great additions and are easy to add to the ends.
