On Sunday 12 October over 200 trucks will take part in Camp Quality’s Convoy in Perth, with the ambitious goal of raising record amounts for kids and families facing cancer.
The Convoy will depart from Perth Hockey Stadium at 9am, driving 53km around Perth City and Osbourne Park, before returning to the stadium for a Family Fun Day with Camp Quality families, volunteers, and supporters.
The Family Fun Day will kick off at 10.30am with food vans, rides, face painting, roving entertainment, live music and an awards ceremony. Everyone will have a chance to check out all the trucks at the ‘Show and Shine’ and take photos with winning trucks.
In 2024, the event raised more than $400,000 for kids and families facing cancer. This year Camp Quality aims to raise even more, helping bring positivity and laughter back into the lives of kids and their families going through some of the hardest of times.
One of those families is Harper’s. Harper was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2021 when she was only five years old. After almost six months of unexplained sickness and multiple hospital visits, a CT scan revealed her family’s worst fears.
“They said there was a mass on her brain. The tumour was high grade, aggressive and fast growing almost the size of tennis ball,” says Dominic, Harpers dad. “10 days after, she underwent an 11-hour surgery to remove the tumour. It was the longest day of my life.”
After the surgery, Harper still had 33 rounds of intense radiation treatment before she was finally in remission. The removal of the tumour left Harper with significant vision loss and a sensory processing disorder. She is now ten years old, has just celebrated four years cancer free. This year, Dominic, is taking part in Convoy Perth, registering a truck from the company he works at, Offroad Trucks Australia.
“We’ve been to lots of Camp Quality events and have made a fair few long-term friends. It’s good to meet other people who understand what you are going through. When I shared a post about Camp Quality at work, my boss said, ‘Do you want to enter one of our trucks and we will help you fundraise.” We attended last year for the Family Fun Day and rode in the bus with the other families. This year, my kids are coming in the truck with me and will get to honk the horn.”
Camp Quality CEO Deborah Thomas says, “Convoy Perth is a testament to the values of the Perth trucking community. In 2024, the Perth locals turned out in full force and raised an extraordinary $400,000 for Camp Quality – this year we want to break that record. Camp Quality supports families during and after treatment, through our hospital programs, camps, Family Fun Days, Family Getaways and Cancer Education Program. Our aim is to help families build optimism and resilience through community, education and fun.”
Camp Quality is also proud to announce Baaz Heavy Towing as the first ever Platinum Sponsor of Convoy Perth. “Baaz Heavy Towing WA feels deeply honoured to be part of this meaningful event, standing alongside the brave heroes who continue to face life’s toughest battles. Our commitment goes beyond participation, we proudly donate funds to support children fighting cancer, helping them and their families during the most challenging times of their lives,” says Manny Baaz, Manager.
