For 10 years, a dedicated group of Western Australian volunteers have turned courage, community and laughter into something extraordinary, raising more than $100,000 to help Camp Quality bring fun, positivity and laughter to kids and families going through cancer.
What began in 2015 as a simple fundraising idea grew into a decade-long labour of love and the clear goal of raising $100,000 in 10 years.

“I had a vision from the start of raising $100,000 and a time frame of 10 years. Our team started with eight volunteers and an overwhelming response of helpers all keen to shave their heads, or wax their arms and legs, to kick start our fund-raising venture,” says Maureen, founder of Locks for Laughs.
Called Locks for Laughs, the fundraiser started with one simple idea: shave their heads to raise money for Camp Quality. From there, it grew into something much bigger, bringing together volunteers, families and supporters through quiz nights, sausage sizzles, market stalls, and plenty of laughs along the way.
The team began with eight volunteers, with many others joining over the years by shaving their heads, colouring their hair, or taking part in other fundraising activities. While the group evolved over time, a dedicated core team working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring each event to life.
Over the years, Locks for Laughs became known not just for its fundraising, but for its sense of fun and community. Quiz nights drew big crowds, Bunnings sausage sizzles brought people together, and donated venues and prizes meant that all funds could go directly to Camp Quality.

One particularly special memory for Maureen was when Camp Quality dad, Lee, joined in and shaved his head and beard. “It was lovely to have a Camp Quality family give back and be part of our team.”
For the volunteers involved, the motivation has always been simple: seeing the difference Camp Quality makes for kids and families.

“Whether it is hearing a parent say they have ‘found their tribe’ or seeing a child light up with joy at camp, those moments are a powerful reminder of why fundraisers like this matter. They reflect the connection, support and happiness that Camp Quality helps create for families when they need it most.”
Together, the Locks for Laughs team has contributed close to 140 years of volunteering with Camp Quality. Alongside attending Kids’ Camps, Family Camps and Family Fun Days, they have spent countless hours planning events, sourcing prizes, organising venues and bringing fundraising ideas to life.
At the beginning of 2026, the team was just $7,128 away from reaching its $100,000 goal. A sausage sizzle on 10 January raised $3,175, and with less than $4,000 left to go, three team members made one final commitment by shaving their heads.
That final push saw Locks for Laughs not only reach its goal but surpass it by $500.
“Thank you to my amazing team who never said no to my requests and there were many I know they are as proud of our achievements as I am,” says Maureen.
More than a fundraiser, Locks for Laughs has been a story of generosity, teamwork and the lasting impact volunteers can make. Through challenges, change and years of dedication, this close-knit group has helped create more smiles for Camp Quality kids and families.
And that is something truly worth celebrating.
