On 19 October 2023, a group of passionate Camp Quality supporters will embark on a 400KM cycle over five days to raise money and bring positivity, fun and laughter back into the lives of kids and families facing a devastating cancer diagnosis.
The 400KMS for Kids fundraising adventure brings together ordinary people from all walks of life to do extraordinary things. Riding through rain, hail, or shine, they’ll set off on 19 October and ride across the finish line on 24 October. The peloton will start and finish in Dunedoo, NSW.
Scott and his 19-year-old son, Josh, are taking on the challenge to raise money for families like theirs. When Scott’s daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2006, Camp Quality was there to support them through the traumatic experience.
“I use this as a way for our family to ‘pay it forward’, and to help give hope to new and current families going through their cancer journey,” says Scott.
“We have been a Camp Quality family for many years now, and it is a testament to their amazing people and the incredible support they provide that still has us in awe, and we feel so privileged to have shared this journey with them,” says Scott.
Through Camp Quality, Scott and his family were able to go on Family Camps, Family Fun Days, Kids Camps and accessed other services that eased the burden of childhood cancer.
Camp Quality was there for the family every step of their cancer journey. “Camp Quality has a unique way to make parents and kids forget about hospital visits and just let us have fun. For us, being able to talk to other families was incredible. It gave us hope.”
“I am useless at a lot of sports, but I can ride a bike. So, I’m happy to do my part. We are eternally grateful to Camp Quality for giving us hope, and for giving us our daughters life back,” says Scott.
Camp Quality CEO Deborah Thomas says: “It is heartening to see so many dedicated Camp Quality supporters coming together to cycle 400kms across rural NSW to raise money for kids and their families facing a devastating cancer diagnosis. Funds raised from this event will mean that more families can access Camp Quality services and programs so that we can put smiles back on faces of even more kids going through cancer.”
