On Sunday 14 April, Camp Quality’s FUNX4 fundraiser will set off for a five-day adventure through the Victorian Highlands to raise money for kids and families facing cancer.
This year the popular event sold out with 24 participant vehicles taking part – which is just over 60 people. With weeks left to fundraise, FUNx4 has already raised nearly $100,000.
The off-roading vehicles will parade out of Mansfield, VIC and take to the alpine back roads before finishing in Bright, VIC on Friday 19 April.
Long-time participant Billy Thain says he participates in FUNX4 in memory of his brother Ryan who was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was just eight years old.
“Camp Quality supported Ryan right through his two-year battle with cancer and really made an incredible difference to him at this time, through all the programs and services that they offer. Camp Quality did what they did best and put a smile on my brother’s face through his toughest days and I can’t thank them enough for that,” says Billy.
“Over the years, I have seen the programs and resources that are offered to both children and families impacted by cancer expand considerably: from Camps; Family Retreats; the Kids’ Guide to Cancer information app; and their Cancer Education Program with the puppets Camp Quality are always looking for new ways to help those who need it most.”
When Billy heard about FUNx4, he knew straight away that it was the perfect way to give back to Camp Quality. “The first FUNx4 event I participated in was 2019 and I can honestly say, I have never looked back. A great group of likeminded people, who get out there, spend months leading up to the event raising much needed funds for Camp Quality, all while spreading awareness of the importance of this cause. It really doesn’t get any better than that.”
Camp Quality CEO, Deborah Thomas says: “FUNX4 is a unique fundraising event fueled by a group of extremely passionate supporters. People like Billy are the heart of FUNx4, and we are so grateful for his support and time. We are also honoured to know that we were able to support Billy’s family during their darkest days following Ryan’s cancer diagnosis.”
“Every day, two Australian families will receive the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer. As well as providing a much-needed break from the trauma of cancer, Camp Quality provides support at every step of the cancer journey – with in hospital programs for children undergoing treatment, counselling services for parents and age-appropriate information such as our Cancer Education Program performed by the Camp Quality puppets in schools. Camp Quality helps families to reconnect post-hospital treatment, build a supportive community and create positive memories together.”
